July 25, 2009 – Edmonton, Alberta.  At the Edmonton Centre Airport road circuit J. R. Hildebrand took flight and left his challengers in his jet stream.  J. R., in his number 26 ARPRO AFS Racing/Andretti Green Racing “bird” took the pole for starters.  And then he went air-born at the race start and led every one of the yellow-flag free 50 laps before the checkered flag brought him in for a landing.  His fastest speed had been 105.268 mph.  It was J. R.’s 3rd win this season and his 4th pole.

Rookie Richard Philippe from France, driving for Team PBIR, qualified 2nd and finished 2nd. It was his second 2nd this season.  Sebastian Saavedra, J. R.’s teammate, qualified 5th but finished 3rd on the podium. For Sebastian, this was his second 3rd and went with a previous 2nd and two wins – enough to push him up to 2nd in the points standings. The drivers points standings are: Hildebrand 372/ Saavedra 303/ Romancini [8th] 273/ Cunningham [6th] 270 and Hinchcliffe [4th] 267.

The next race will be at the Kentucky Speedway on August 1.  It will be the 100th race for the IRL’s Firestone Indy Lights Series since it was formed in 2002.
