Vision Racing Penalized for Modified Exhaust |

Jay Drake ran a good race in the Bluegrass 100 at the Kentucky
Speedway. He ended up finishing 4th after challenging for the
lead throughout the day and putting up some very fast times in practice
and qualifying.
However, one of the interesting aspects of being a top five finisher at
Kentucky was that Butch Meyer -- Technical Director of the Inifiniti
Pro Series -- and his staff conducted an extremely thorough inspection
of all five cars afer the race.
It was during this thorough inspection that they discovered that the
number 20 car of Vision Racing was in violation of Rule 100G.(1) of the
series technical specifications. The rule reads:
"The exhaust system must be used as provided by the approved chassis
manufacturer. External coating for heat reduction may be used."
It was the opinion of the IPS technical staff that the exhaust system
on the number 20 entry had been modified. The parts in question
were impounded and turned over to the league for a more thorough
investigation.
Apparently, the series leadership felt that it was a serious enough
incident that they penalized Vision racing 16 entrant points for the
number 20 entry, and also fined the team an undisclosed amount.
The number 9 (Nick Bussell) and number 6 (Jon Herb) cars from Vision Racing were not cited by the league as being in violation of the rules.
Vision Racing has the option to appeal this penalty. We will try
to keep you updated regarding the outcome of any appeal, if one is
filed.
